Nuclear war game?
Hello everyone I did some searching and I actually found out that there was an old video game based on the nuclear war. Ironically called Nuclear War, it was released and developed by New World Computing (gaming company) in 1989 for the Amiga (personal computer) and later released for MS-DOS. It is a one player strategic game where you are going against three other CPU players to win the war using nuclear firearms.
There are ten different characters to choose from when you start the game. The animated characters are all national leaders during the cold war with nicknames. The video demonstrates that you can either build nuclear weapons and or strike certain areas of the map to counter the other player’s attacks. It seems the only way you win is to completely bomb the other players to see who can rack up the most points and if you have a more populated area than the other players. It also adds weird humor to it. For instance, one of the few cinematic shows a cowboy riding on top of a nuke yelling “YeeeeHahh”. To me I found it a bit surprising that someone would actually make a game about nuclear war. I’m not sure if it was made to lighten the seriousness of the nuclear war era or just something made for a buck.
Rap and Napalms
Hello fellow readers I recently came across this music video searching the net called Napalm by the rapper Xzibit. I haven’t seen this guy since the show Pimp my Ride that aired on MTV years ago. Anyway he’s back with a new song called Napalm and the music video is pretty much about war. I guess when performers go to visit the Middle East; they have to make a song about it. However, I found this video interesting and surprising to come from him. I tried finding a making of video or at least an insider video to see exactly why he made this song, but I was unable to find anything credible. What I got from the video is that if you have the power to destroy, you can wipe out anyone without a second thought. It also seems that he’s trying to say that we are in this war for no reason and it’s only going on for the money that I guess we as citizens will never see. There was verse where he said that all he wanted to do was live as a common man and just lives a normal life. With all of the messages that’s in the song it’s kind of hard to tell if he is just exploiting how the current affects of the war is warping society and or he is just stating that maybe this is how it will be as time goes on. What do you all think about this song?
Cleanup on Nuclear Waste?
For years there have been deaf ears when it comes to nuclear weapons unless a country is being threatened with weapons of mass destruction. To my knowledge nothing is really mentioned in the media about the removal or stabilization of nuclear waste because it’s more focused on the war that’s going on. I recently came across an article from USA TODAY about the cost of a nuclear mess that was left unattended since World War II. It says that the U.S government has been building a treatment plant to stabilize and contain 56 million gallons of waste left from the Cold War. It was Hanford’s Reactor B located in Washington State, had plutonium for the first atomic bomb that dropped in Nagasaki, Japan. It is said that a major leak could contaminate water supplies that serves millions across the Northwest. A 10 year effort to work on the project has gone wrong.

What’s the problem? The startup date was supposed to occur in 2001 but has been pushed to 2019. The project itself costs over $12 billion and said that it was already tripled from the original estimates. Donald Alexander, a senior U.S government scientist apart of the project states that “We’re continuing with a failed design.” There are also a lot of safety hazards that can occur if equipment is not handled or installed properly. This means that this project is a huge risk upon the workers and can be a hazard to the world’s resources if something goes wrong. I think that’s the reason why that is has been put off for so long, but it has to be done.
