Dr. Stranglelove (My Thoughts)

The movie Dr. Strangelove was about a U.S Air force general that orders a nuclear strike on Russia also known as the Soviet Union for war. The pilots were surprised to see such an order and thought that they where no longer using nuclear weapons in wars. Concerned, the pilots call to make sure the order was correct. Their general in question is the one that goes by Jack the Ripper that made the order without the president knowing.  The soldier under Jack was also for the nuclear strike and told the pilots that it was not a drill. So the order was already set in stone. The president tried to get in contact with the general but Jack cut off all modes of communication with him and the aircraft was also made to shut down all communication privileges once the order is made. It prevented the president from calling off the nuclear attack. However, the president and the others were in the war room and devised a plan to stop the strike. That was as far as I could watch the movie. Out of all the war related videos I’ve seen this had to be the most interesting.

Was the Atomic bomb Necessary?

I’ve been in my History of Technology class for a couple months now and we’ve been talking about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki for awhile. I must ask was it really necessary? No. Even before taking this class I’ve seen the animated reincarnate of the atomic bomb called Hadashi no Gen/Bare Foot Gen and I must say that was terrible. It actually showed what happens when a person is blown up and the aftermath was very hard to watch as well. There were survivors looking for their loved ones of course and looking for food. One survivor stood out to me the most when an elderly woman was looking for milk to nourish a baby. She found a woman standing in disbelief and the elderly woman asked if she could breast feed the baby. But little did the woman know, the woman she asked lost her child due to the explosion and was very adamant and refused to help the elderly woman and continued to cry. Watching the other videos in class showed that certain generals and presidents were actually against the bombing and thought it was barbaric. Just to know the fact that the bomb was dropped on a Catholic Church shows that there was no sense of direction during that attack. It was supposed to be dropped on a small military base within that region. How it ended up being dropped on a village is beyond me. I believe war is unnecessary in itself because it doesn’t seem to really change anything but show who has the most power and or it’s seems like the only way to prevent other countries from attacking. Mass genocide is not the answer.
